Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to join Chambers and Partners, the world's leading provider of legal research and analysis. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, you will play a pivotal role in maximizing the quality, usability, and commercial value of our strategic data assets, whilst ensuring regulatory compliance.
You will lead the governance programme implementing robust governance frameworks, ensuring data quality integrity, compliance and overseeing data stewardship and metadata management activities.
Additionally, you may support multiple high-impact initiatives focused on modernizing our data platform and developing advanced ML/AI capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of legal intelligence by managing the delivery of comprehensive, actionable, and trusted data solutions that serve the global legal community.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Data Governance and Quality
- Lead and manage the Data Governance Operating Model, ensuring alignment to business objectives and regulatory requirements
- Establish a data governance roadmap driving improvements to data governance framework, processes and policies.
- Accountable for managing data compliance at Chambers, in line with data protection legislation and regulatory requirements. Liaise with Chambers DPO as necessary
- Ensure data dictionary and glossary are up to date, data lineage, definitions and business rules are well defined, and that data assets are accessible in the data catalogue.
- Lead the Implementation of the data catalogue strategy using Purview
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to drive data governance and quality initiatives, ensuring alignment and adherence to data governance principles
- Develop and maintain a strategic data roadmap that aligns with both internal and external product objectives
- Identify and assess data-related risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Define and monitor data governance metrics and data quality metrics.
- Own, develop and implement data quality strategies to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data assets.
- Lead targeted data quality assessments and improvement initiatives across the organization
- Define and enforce data standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Oversee data stewardship activities, including data issue resolution, data lineage, and data ownership assignments.
Data Initiatives
- Lead the selection, proof of concept, and implementation of Master Data Management (MDM) solutions while managing vendor relationships and budget allocations
- Contribute to the successful delivery of our new Modern Data Platform initiative, utilizing Azure Databricks with medallion architecture to transform our data capabilities
Data Ambassador
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies related to data governance.
- Ensure all staff are trained in regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with leadership to articulate the value of data governance to stakeholders.
- Provide clients with information regarding Chambers data governance, as applicable
General Management
- Provide on-going leadership, coaching, mentoring and other development opportunities for the team members; conduct performance reviews with direct reports
Skills and Experience
Must Have
- 5+ years’ experience in data Governance / data quality roles or similar, with proven delivery experience
- Experience in implementing data governance frameworks, policies, procedures and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Demonstrable experience developing and executing strategic data roadmaps
- Strong understanding of data privacy, regulatory standards and security best practices
- Strong stakeholder management skills, especially within the data Governance domain
- Strong expertise in managing cross-functional teams and coordinating with technical and business stakeholders
- Experience in building and curating data dictionaries and other metadata resources to bridge the gap between the technical analytics and the business source data
- Demonstrable expertise in data quality management, ETL processes, and analytics
- Proven track record in data quality analysis and delivering data-driven insights to stakeholders
- Experience in being a change leader and cultivating a data-driven culture
- Proficiency in Agile/Programme Management, Data Quality, Stakeholder Management, Communications & Training
- Good knowledge of Master Data Management, Data Security, Data Sovereignty, Risk Management
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of legal industry data structures and terminology
- Familiarity with Azure Databricks and cloud data platforms
- Experience in industries with high data and analytics needs
- Previous experience with Master Data Management implementations
- Product management experience
- Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools
- Understanding of data pipelines
- Good exposure to Data Warehouse and Data Lake technologies ideally around Azure
- Knowledge of Azure Purview.
