Job description
Overview

Customer and Trading Manager - Nightshift role at Sainsbury's. This position involves leading overnight replenishment and store operations to ensure readiness for customers in the morning.

Lead in our stores with bold leadership, a passion for service and an eye for opportunity. You’ll empower teams to raise the bar on product availability, safety standards, and seamless daily operations.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead a team overnight to deliver all replenishment activities across the store while prioritising deliveries, organising the warehouse and replenishing shelves.
  • Often run a full store operation overnight, responsible for the full shift and the safety and wellbeing of colleagues.
  • Ensure standards are excellent come morning so we’re ready to serve customers.
  • People management is a big part of the role, including performance and capability management, disciplinaries and ensuring scheduling and pay accuracy.

Nightshift work is full-time over 4 nights, with a £4,500 premium on top of base salary. Night shifts typically run from 22:00 until 08:00.

What makes a great nightshift manager
  • Comfortable with nightshift work and able to adapt to its physical and mental demands while maintaining a safe, healthy environment for the team.
  • Previous line management responsibilities in a fast-paced, operational environment.
  • Resilience to the mental and physical demands of working nights.
  • Provides brilliant customer service and coaches a team to do the same.
  • Experience delivering and monitoring KPIs or other performance indicators.
  • Ability to manage disciplinaries and other employee relations issues.
  • Leads operations and is comfortable operating alone in the absence of more senior management.
  • Values inclusivity in all actions.
Essential Criteria
  • Track record of delivering excellent customer service and coaching others to do the same.
  • Experience leading a team in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment with motivated performance and smooth operations.
  • Operational leadership skills, including responsibility for store operations when senior managers are absent.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding KPIs across sales, availability, customer satisfaction or colleague engagement.
  • Experience managing employee relations issues, including performance and absence management.
  • Desirable: has worked night shifts in a high-volume, operational environment and created a safe, supportive atmosphere for the team during out-of-hours trading.
Working for us has great rewards
  • Salary depends on experience, store size, complexity and location.
  • Discount card – 10% discount after four weeks, increasing to 15% on Fridays and Saturdays; 15% off at Argos on every pay day.
  • An annual bonus scheme based on performance.
  • Free food and hot drinks for colleagues in all stores.
  • Generous holiday entitlement, maternity and paternity leave.
  • Pension – employer contributions matched between 4-7.5%.
  • Sainsbury’s share scheme – discounted investment opportunity.
  • Wellbeing support – emotional, counselling, legal and financial advice.
  • Colleague networks and development opportunities, including mentorship, training and career progression.
