Job Overview
We are looking to recruit a permanent Band 6 Critical Care Outreach Practitioner to join an evolving team of Critical Care Outreach Nurses and AHPs. The team provides a 24/7 service 365 days a year across both campuses. The post holder will be expected to work a combination of day and night shifts and may be required to work on the Critical Care/CCOT rotation programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical support to ward patients experiencing acute deterioration.
- Escalate complex information to the CCOT Band 7 team and the multidisciplinary team.
- Apply critical care skills outside of the critical care environment and prioritise and analyse complex situations.
- Deliver formal and informal teaching to staff at all levels.
- Support the development of the service through participation in training, mentorship and research initiatives.
- Complete the Critical Care degree and maintain competencies.
Training & Qualifications
- Current level one NMC registration or registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Post‑basic training critical care course.
- Teaching and assessing qualification.
- Mentorship course.
- Advanced patient assessment skills (e.g., chest auscultation).
- NORF Enhanced Competencies.
- Diploma or degree in health, nursing or physiotherapy related studies.
- CC3N Step competency steps 1‑4.
- Formal leadership and management training.
- Research training/experience.
- Non‑medical prescribing.
Experience
- Significant and relevant experience within a critical care environment or equivalent.
- Experience utilising critical care skills outside of a critical care environment.
- Evidence of appropriate delegation, support and supervision of peers and junior staff.
- Professional autonomy and decision‑making skills when managing caseloads.
- Timely, accurate written and electronic record‑keeping.
- Providing staff feedback on performance.
- Understanding of conflict management skills.
- Leadership and project work involvement.
- Band 6 level experience in a critical care environment.
Communication & Relationship Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication.
- Empathetic conveyance of sensitive information to patients, relatives and staff.

- Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, weekends and nights and cross‑site working.
- Participation in the Critical Care/CCOT rotation programme.

Additional Information
