About the service

My name’s Keir Brisbane-Langsdon and I’m the Head of Counselling Services in Norfolk and Waveney Mind. Our Talking Therapies Counselling Service works as part of the NHS to offer free at the point of access, effective brief therapy interventions within the community. We aim to reduce waits for counselling. In this role you will offer a variety of counselling interventions, adapt to client needs, contribute to a vibrant team, and make a positive impact on the local community.

Responsibilities

The post holder will provide individual and group counselling interventions for clients with common mental health problems as appropriate to meet service-user needs. They will monitor their performance and outcomes in conjunction with their clinical supervisor and the wider team. The post holder will be a fully qualified counsellor, and BACP/UKCP (or other accepted professional body) accredited – or working towards accreditation. You may be required to complete NHS Talking Therapies training in Counselling for Depression or IPT and other training as directed within a reasonable timeframe. The postholder will work within a stepped care approach and with clients who present with depression and sometimes comorbid anxiety where counselling is clinically effective.

Qualifications

A percentage of clinical contact hours will include counselling suitability assessments. Assessments and treatments will be provided face to face and by videocall/telephone in line with client preference and as approved by the Clinical Lead. The postholder will work with people from diverse backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary, and will work in various community locations e.g. GP surgeries.
