Overview

Cost Intelligence Consultant (Construction Consultancy) at AECOM. This role involves active participation across all stages of a construction project, working on large-scale infrastructure and capital programmes with a variety of clients in multi-disciplinary teams.

As a Consultant at AECOM, you will utilise sector knowledge and experience while gaining exposure to new areas of study and research. You will be responsible for deliverables within your projects and initiatives, driving innovation with the support of colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Support and deliver commissions in the area of efficiency and value identification, assurance and continuous improvement, construction economics research and analysis, plus general cost intelligence services.
  • Work across technical disciplines including cost modelling and/or cost estimate development, statistical analysis to support benchmarking and efficiency exercises, business cases development and cost-benefit analysis, and defining business models.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through benchmarking and efficiency exercises.
  • Apply data-driven solutions by analysing client and industry datasets.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to mature and develop service offerings with practical and viable solutions for clients.
  • Provide assistance to senior management in preparing technical and financial proposals.
  • Ensure effective delivery through project and financial management for complex assignments.
  • Maintain high-quality professional outputs.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Technical Analysis & Reporting: Conduct cost modelling, cost estimation, business case development, cost-benefit analysis, and statistical analysis to support client and project decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain databases to support analytical outputs and reporting.
  • Produce high-quality, auditable deliverables with clear documentation and validation of results.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations tailored to client needs.
  • Problem Solving & Innovation: Apply creative problem-solving approaches to develop novel solutions that meet client requirements and demonstrate a proactive, driven attitude in tackling complex challenges.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal teams; manage stakeholder relationships with confidence and professionalism; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Project Delivery & Industry Experience: Ensure timely delivery of outputs; maintain a high standard of quality control including error checking and validation of analytical results; bring experience from consultancy or contracting roles within relevant disciplines; contribute to large-scale infrastructure projects across Transport, Water, Energy, and other sectors.
  • Essential Skills & Tools: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a range of clients and consultants.
  • Desirable Requirements: Experience in the Defence sector; familiarity with coding languages such as Python or R; background in database development and management.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline (min 2:2); membership in relevant industry bodies such as RICS, APM or Controls & Skills Authority with supporting accreditation/certifications.
