Corporate Trainee - Youth Work Assistant (North East)

Salary: Gradd 2 - £24,796 - £24,796

About the Service

Our Youth Service Team is looking to employ a Corporate Trainee – Assistant Youth Support Worker based at the North East team. The team delivers a range of provisions across the city for young people aged 11‑25, including youth centres, specialist provisions, targeted support, project work and street‑based youth work teams.

The North East locality team operates in Llanedeyrn, Pentwyn, Pontprennau and Llanishen and works with young people who live in those communities. We aim to provide creative and exciting activities that promote life skills and encourage participation and development.

Cardiff Council delivers over 700 different services to residents, visitors and businesses across the city. As a local government organisation, our customers depend on us to deliver essential services. We require applicants to live within Cardiff boundaries; check your postcode here.

This role will involve a mix of online and hybrid working, with the possibility of working fully from home. The post holder will be required to work unsociable hours, including evenings and some weekends.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are seeking individuals who are keen to learn, interested in our work and eager to make a difference to our customers through exceptional public service delivery in Cardiff.

  • Attendance and participation data collection for events, projects and workshops.
  • Documentation and IT tasks using a variety of computer software.
  • Facilitation of face‑to‑face sessions with young people to support their personal, social and educational development.
  • Hands‑on support during open access youth provision evenings (6‑9 pm).
  • Participation in on‑the‑job training, supervision and mentoring sessions to develop transferable skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection principles.
Additional Information
  • Post is part‑time at 18.5 hours per week, but salary is based on a full‑time (37 hours) role.
  • Post is temporary for 12 months.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
  • Not suitable for post share.
