We are looking for a Contract Manager 4PL to be based at our site in Northampton, with the flexibility to work remotely up to three days per week, subject to operational requirements. Flexibility is essential, as you may need to travel internationally.

As a Contract Manager, you will lead the management of a vital global pharmaceutical logistics contract, ensuring maximum operational efficiency, outstanding customer service, and robust financial results for both the client and Yusen Logistics. You will collaborate closely with key customer stakeholders to sustain strong relationships and identify opportunities for organic growth. Therefore, we require a candidate with exceptional stakeholder management skills.

Your ability to communicate effectively, stay solution-focused, and remain calm under pressure will be crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Management
  • Engage with key customer stakeholders to maintain existing relationships and create opportunities for further organic growth
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual business reviews with customers, ensuring accurate information is presented and remedial actions are understood and implemented
  • Lead commercial negotiations for contractual renewals and annual reviews
  • Serve as the key escalation point for customers, managing queries professionally and promptly, and ensuring appropriate actions are taken
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain relationships and promote best practice, sharing insights with team members and departments as appropriate
  • Financial & Legal
  • Oversee Profit & Loss for customer accounts, ensuring budgetary targets are met and escalating any deviations promptly
  • Manage financial data flows to meet strict deadlines for accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts
  • Approve all costs and revenues, including purchase orders and customer invoices, in a timely manner
  • Ensure adherence to customer charging and invoicing procedures according to company policy
  • Oversee the implementation of profit-enhancing initiatives and actively seek to maximise cost savings
  • Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all quality and compliance requirements are upheld by the team and haulier partners, developing corrective actions as necessary and escalating potential breaches
  • Aim to develop and implement best practices across the contract
  • Operations
  • Collaborate with the EU Operations Manager to safeguard the Yusen position by ensuring delivery on quality, service, and cost expectations
  • Act as an escalation point for major service issues as the contract owner, leading in the resolution of contract challenges
  • Coordinate and influence internal resources to maintain service quality, proactively exceeding customer expectations
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Own and coordinate contract gainshare activities
  • Achieve and surpass contractual targets across all contracts while maintaining service and quality levels
  • Work closely with the Digital Healthcare Control Tower (DHCT) team to track and report on Continuous Improvement activities each month, internally and to the customer
  • Collaborate with the 4PL SRM team to routinely identify and pursue improvement initiatives
  • Review cross-contract efficiencies and work with DHCT to propose initiatives that benefit both Yusen and the customer


Key Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in logistics management, preferably within a 3PL/4PL pharmaceutical environment
  • Proven ability to manage senior stakeholder relationships
  • Proven experience in managing P&L accounts
  • Final mile logistics experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of effective customer and supplier relationship principles
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Flexible and proactive approach
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office platforms, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
