Job description
Overview

Liaison Consultants – Full time 10PA adults of working age and 6PA older adult. We are seeking two Consultants to join our Acute Hospital Liaison Service in Swindon. These are newly created posts based within the Mental Health Unit at the Victoria Centre on the site of Great Western Hospital.

Team and Leadership

You’ll be joining a forward‑thinking Trust with a well established multidisciplinary team that has good links to community and crisis services. We offer a leadership development programme designed to support you around three core areas: self‑as‑a‑leader, leading teams and leading change and transition.

Role and Responsibilities

The role of the consultant is for diagnostic and treatment advice as well as supporting the wider team for patients attending GWH. The consultant will have a key clinical leadership role, with service improvement and development, alongside the team manager. There is a significant teaching and training aspect to this role for general hospital staff. The post holder is expected to attend a daily MDT meeting in the morning with the team members, triage referrals and see patients as appropriate. The service accepts referrals for patients aged 18 and over from both the wards and the Emergency Department. On an average the team receives about thirty referrals per week, including roughly twenty general adult and ten older adult referrals. The post holder typically sees three to four face‑to‑face patient contacts per day.

Background and Application

Applications are welcomed from general adult, dual trained, or older adult backgrounds, and there is flexibility in the number of sessions as long as service needs can be met. Following fresh investment into the medical workforce, we are recruiting two consultant colleagues to join working with the Mental Health Liaison Team attached with Great Western Hospital (GWH) in Swindon – a 670‑bedded district general hospital with a 24/7 emergency department.
