Job overview

We are delighted to invite applications for a new Consultant colleague to join our team for this joint Nephrology and Critical Care role.

Main duties of the job
  • Have an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the critical care services
  • Participate in the critical care consultant on-call rota
  • Continuous commitment for the care of patients, ensuring that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients
  • Develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources
  • Undertake a Block Working Pattern the Critical Care Unit
  • Participate in the Consultant on-call duty rota
  • Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of patients
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the critical care environment
  • Maintain continuing education and professional development
  • Deliver general nephrology clinics at the John Sagar Renal Centre, provide in‑patient reviews at Royal Blackburn Hospital, and support haemodialysis patients in the Blackburn catchment area
Person specification
Qualifications
  • Full registration or eligibility for full registration with the GMC with license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist register for Renal Medicine & GIM via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR
  • Higher qualifications – MA, MSc or MD/PhD
Experience
  • Full training in Renal & GIM as required by the JRCPTB
  • Recent experience caring for general nephrology, transplant and haemodialysis patients
  • Competent to perform PD catheter insertion and renal biopsies
  • Experience leading and developing care for vasculitis & AKI services
  • Experience in other specialist areas that would enhance existing LTHTR services
  • Trained clinical or educational supervisor
