Job description
Consultant Histopathologist (Head and Neck & Skin Pathology)

Applications are invited for a full-time substantive Consultant Histopathologist to join our Cellular Pathology department. This is a replacement post with equal components of Skin and Head and Neck Pathology. The post holder will be based at St. George’s Hospital.

Main Duties

The appointee, together with Consultant colleagues in the department, will be responsible for the provision of Skin and Head and Neck pathology reporting.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues and local managers to run the service efficiently, contribute to governance, audit and maintain CME/CPD, and support trust professional development. The appointee will ensure compliance with Trust policies, standing orders and financial instructions.

The consultant will oversee care of specimen from patients in their charge and manage the clinical department’s functioning, including administrative duties.

Education
  • Full and specialist registration (and licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Medical degree
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • UK‑trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award by interview date. Non‑UK‑trained applicants must show equivalence to UK CCT.
Essential
  • Experience: Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility; thorough general training in histopathology/cytopathology with evidence of further training in relevant specialties; active participation in clinical audit and teaching.
  • Skills: Ability to advise on efficient service running, organise and manage, audit understanding, teaching and presentation skills, IT skills.
  • Personal: Interest in research and teaching; ability to work in a team; good interpersonal skills; caring attitude to patients; commitment to continuing medical education.
Desirable
  • Higher degree in preparation or awarded; management experience; relevant publications in peer‑reviewed medical journals; recent independent reporting experience; leadership skills; research skills; reside within 10 miles of St George’s Hospital during working week.
