Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Brighton seeks a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Lower GI and clinical trials. You will oversee outpatient activities, care for oncology inpatients, and lead clinical trials. This position requires full GMC Registration and offers opportunities for teaching and clinical research in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
  • CCT in oncology or equivalent must be confirmed by GMC by the date of AAC.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility within 6 months of AAC date.

Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical trials and SACT/Radiotherapy prescribing.
  • Participate in Clinical Governance meetings.
  • Conduct ward reviews and patient consultations.

Skills

Training in broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
Interest in LGI cancer oncology
Good communication skills

Education

Full GMC Registration
CCT in oncology or equivalent
Entry onto GMC Specialist Register

Job overview

This post is for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Lower GI and clinical trials, based in Brighton but with cross site working in Eastbourne (ESHT), as part of UHSussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The workload predominantly relates to outpatient clinical activity, with regular commitments to caring for general oncology inpatients and review of patients in the same day emergency care unit as well as taking part in an out of hours oncology on call rota.

In addition, the post will require clinical leadership, MDT attendance and active participation, medical student and registrar teaching, and there will be clinical research opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

  • SACT & Radiotherapy prescribing
  • Clinical trials leadership and delivery
  • Clinical admin generated from patients seen and liaison with other AHPs, and primary care
  • Clinical Governance meetings
  • Ward reviews when appropriate

Person specification
Experience/ Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • CCT in oncology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Clinical Skills and Experience
  • Evidence of training in broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
  • Interest and training suitable for a LGI cancer oncology post
Knowledge
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
  • Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
  • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
  • Recognised teaching qualification
Academic and Research
  • Evidence of participation in audit Experience of planning, and delivering clinical research including liaison with national groups, third sector and commercial funders
  • Prizes and honours
  • Appropriate progression of career to date
