Responsibilities
- As the Construction Manager, you will develop project execution strategies, constructability reviews, construction methodologies, risk assessments, and project documentation. Support collaboration with discipline managers and interfaces with other departments. Assist estimating and development of robust project estimates.
- Assure the quality and integrity of each project, bringing projects in on schedule and within budget. Apply client and in-house construction management procedures, ensuring quality assurance and reliable controls.
- Execute work in accordance with the project’s quality standards and requirements. Manage on-site construction cost and schedule, and oversee installation, commissioning, and completions for hardware, plant and equipment.
- Oversee total field construction to ensure large projects or multiple smaller projects are built to design, budget, and schedule, complying with good manufacturing practice (GMP) within a pharmaceutical environment.
Responsibilities (Additional)
- Accountable for managing, supervising, organizing and coordinating site construction teams to provide high quality support in line with the contract.
- Collaborate with engineering in the design phases to influence design for optimum constructability and performance.
Constructability
- Execute assigned scopes of work in a timely manner according to KPI schedules.
- Ensure work complies with quality standards; lead construction reports to meet milestones and KPIs.
- Review planned activities for constructability, provide accurate feedback and direction.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on all construction activities.
- Report progress to senior management and monitor against the plan.
- Set strategic and tactical directions for policy/procedures, workforce staffing, and budgeting.
- Ensure safety, quality and environmental responsibilities are defined and communicated to workers; initiate safety, quality and environmental processes per requirements.
- Coordinate supply and delivery of equipment, subcontractors, consumables, site accommodation and other project needs in accordance with client specifications and procedures.
- Ensure all employees receive appropriate training for safe, legal and competent performance, including inductions.
- Understand and manage industrial relations impacts and report issues as required.
- Manage and control project cost and schedule for the on-site construction.
- Utilize commercial processes to manage change and capture variations effectively.
- Accountable for overall contract construction effort and support commissioning strategy, including safety, planning, cost and delivery of all field works.
Qualifications
- Typically, minimum qualified to ISCED Level 5 (technical diploma) or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
- Vocational qualification such as NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management is an advantage.
- A recognised health, safety and environmental qualification is desirable (IOSH or similar).
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Experience with at least 10 years of post-qualification field construction experience in a relevant industry.
- Knowledge of GMP within a pharmaceutical environment.
- Experience managing multi-disciplined projects in the pharmaceutical, batch chemical production or related industries is preferred.
- Excellent communication and delegation skills.
- Experience working in a technical environment and conducting Constructability and Construction Readiness Reviews.
- Experience in people management within construction.
- Good general computer literacy (MS Office).
- Some experience with Completions Management Systems and processes through to handover.
