Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Manager (CM) to oversee all works for the construction of four new industrial units at St. Modwen Park, Newport. This phase of development totals 115,000 sq ft, with units ranging in size from 16,558 sq ft to 43,487 sq ft, and is designed in line with the St. Modwen Swan Standard, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and quality. The project value is approximately £410,000. The Construction Manager will ensure full compliance with HSE guidance, CDM regulations, and the company’s SHEQ policies and procedures across site operations. Reporting to the Project Manager or, depending on project size, the Operations Manager/Director, the CM will be responsible for managing all site activities, the supply chain, health & safety standards, quality control, and overall site organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead site operations to deliver the project safely, on time, and to high quality standards.
  • Implement and monitor company SHEQ policies and procedures on site.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, HSE guidance, and method statements/risk assessments.
  • Conduct and record site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
  • Manage subcontractors, ensuring quality, safety, and programme compliance.
  • Oversee plant, equipment, and materials to ensure correct use and record keeping.
  • Maintain accurate records for site attendance, inspections, and progress reporting.
  • Ensure effective pedestrian and traffic management systems.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Mentor, manage, and develop site staff, ensuring clear communication and maximising output.
  • Contribute to tender and pre-construction planning, logistics, and programmes as required.
  • Ensure the site is well organised, safe, and presents a professional image at all times.
Candidate Profile
  • Proven experience as a Construction Manager on large-scale projects (£20m+ preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of HSE guidance, CDM regulations, and SHEQ policies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and programmes (Asta Powerproject experience desirable).
  • Results-driven, with strong problem-solving and forward-planning abilities.
