Job summary

A humanitarian organization based in Birmingham is seeking a Community Mobilizer to conduct surveys and facilitate disaster risk reduction training. This role requires a bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience in community mobilization and engagement. The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for beneficiary identification, organizing community awareness campaigns, and coordinating with stakeholders to effectively deliver project activities. Job description
  • The Community Mobilizer is responsible for conducting surveys, identifying beneficiaries, facilitating distributions, and delivering DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) training, including activities related to earthquake preparedness, response, and recovery to help reduce disaster risks.
  • The Community Mobilizer is responsible for beneficiary identification, screening, selection, and distributing refreshments to returnees in identified locations, as well as supporting similar processes for earthquake-affected households in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.
  • Receiving, protecting, and distributing refreshment packages in assigned locations, including areas affected by earthquakes.
  • Keeping accurate records of refreshment stock, receipts, and distributions at the field level.
  • Mobilizing the community and beneficiaries and providing them with awareness regarding all project activities, including earthquake response, DRR measures, and preparedness awareness.
  • Coordinating with the Returnees Consortium, line stakeholders, sectoral departments, and relevant provincial earthquake-response stakeholders when required.
  • Supporting the team in planning and organizing community awareness campaigns and mobilization sessions, including sessions on earthquake safety, preparedness, and early recovery.
  • Engaging and mobilizing community members through one-to-one and group sessions, ensuring both returnee and earthquake-affected communities are reached.
  • Preparing work plans, schedules, and reports for all assigned activities, including earthquake-related interventions.
  • Helping build the capacity of community organizations by supporting them in voicing their prioritized needs, facilitating community meetings, and maintaining proper records—especially for communities impacted by earthquakes.
  • Implementing all assigned activities and ensuring their safe and timely delivery in accordance with the implementation plan, including earthquake-response activities.
  • Monitoring the progress of daily wage workers under returnee activities and community members participating in earthquake-related programs and providing regular feedback to the project team.
  • Assisting in monitoring and reporting on participants' progress, success stories, challenges, and earthquake-related community needs.
  • Supporting the project team in preparing final reports, including lessons learned, challenges, and recommendations for future interventions related to both returnee and earthquake-response programming.
  • Ensuring proper visibility of IRW-AF activities in all field locations, including earthquake-response sites.
  • Maintaining consistent field presence according to assigned work schedules and coordination mechanisms related to returnee and earthquake-response activities.
  • Providing timely reporting on all activities undertaken at the field level to the Provincial Manager, including earthquake-related updates and assessments.
  • Conduct monitoring and supervision of all activities at the field level and sharing findings with the Provincial Manager and relevant staff to support quality improvement.
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the line supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Community science, Economics, and another relevant field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience, preferably with an international or reputable national organization, specifically in community mobilization, community engagement, , including experience working with disaster-affected or vulnerable communities.
  • Ability to work at returnees’ crossing points under Boarder consortium.
  • Experience in staff management, public outreach/ counseling, community mobilization.
  • Strong command of Pashto and Dari and preferably working knowledge of English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-ethnic team and take on diverse tasks.
