# Clinical Specialist Nurse (UK Visa Sponsorship)### Job Description## About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Specialist Nurse (CSN) to join our Acute Hospital Mental Health Liaison Service (AHLS) at Scarborough General Hospital. This is a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly specialist role, working at the interface between physical healthcare and mental health.You will be a senior clinical presence within the service, providing expert leadership, clinical decision-making, and professional support to colleagues. This role is ideal for a confident, autonomous practitioner who thrives in complexity, values systemic working, and is passionate about continuous service development and co-created care.### The ServiceAHLS provides a 24/7 mental health liaison service to Accident & Emergency and inpatient wards across Scarborough General Hospital. We support people presenting with a wide range of needs, including:* Self-harm and suicidal distress* Functional and organic mental illness* Alcohol and substance misuse* Complex psychosocial and safeguarding concernsFor many individuals, this is their first contact with mental health services, making compassionate, skilled, and timely intervention critical to their recovery journey.### What You’ll Be DoingAs a Clinical Specialist Nurse, you will:Lead and coordinate high-quality mental health assessments and care planning within the acute hospital setting* Provide expert advice and consultation to colleagues, acute hospital teams, and partner agencies* Support clinical risk assessment, safety planning, and formulation-driven interventions* Promote holistic care that integrates physical and mental health needs* Role-model recovery-focused, person-centred, and shared-decision-making approaches* Contribute to service improvement, workforce development, and training within the Acute Trust* Maintain a visible and accessible senior clinical presence for patients, carers, and staff* You will often work as an autonomous specialist practitioner, while remaining closely connected to a resilient, skilled, and supportive multidisciplinary team.**Leadership & Service Development**This role is about influencing positive change. You will:* Provide clinical leadership and supervision to colleagues* Support a culture where learning, reflection, and innovation are encouraged* Actively participate in quality improvement and governance activities* Help shape new and evolving pathways, including specialist group interventions### Who We’re Looking For**You will be:*** An experienced Registered Nurse with strong mental health assessment and therapeutic skills* Confident managing clinical risk and complexity in high-pressure environments* Skilled in collaborative working with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary partners* Passionate about recovery-oriented care and co-production* Motivated to develop advanced clinical and leadership capabilities* A special interest in alcohol and substance misuse is desirable.#### Essential Qualifications & Professional Requirements**You must have:*** Current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration (RMN / RNLD / RGN; RNSC for CAMHS only)* Recognised Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor status (or working towards)* Training in providing clinical supervision (or willingness to complete)* Postgraduate diploma in a relevant subject or commitment to achieving this within two years* Commitment to achieving a recognised governed therapy or advanced clinical qualification within the first year (e.g. CBT, DBT, Systemic Therapy, or Non-Medical Prescribing)* Equivalent experience to postgraduate level, supported by evidence of relevant CPD#### Knowledge & ExperienceYou will demonstrate:* Extensive knowledge of mental health needs within acute hospital settings* Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA)* Advanced skills in safeguarding, clinical risk assessment, and governance* Experience working with people with complex needs and high-risk presentations* Proven multidisciplinary working and involvement in quality improvement activities#### About the TrustTees, Esk and Wear Valleys and Learning Disability Trust serving County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York, and Selby.We work in partnership with people, families, carers, and communities to ensure everyone feels safe, heard, and supported.
