Attitudes to climate change are driving more action to implement decarbonisation solutions.

Promethean, through its use of Continuous Flow Hydrothermal Synthesis (CFHS) and patented reactor systems, is delivering the materials and technology to meet these demands via MOF-based carbon capture.

Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer

Do you want to use your manufacturing engineering skills to help fight climate change?

Working as a Manufacturing Engineer at PrometheanParticles, you will be part of a team which takes the latest chemical manufacturing innovations and turns them into the equipment, methodologies, and systems that will realise our vision – decarbonising the world by unleashing the potential of metal‑organic frameworks (MOFs).

You will have direct involvement in all parts of manufacturing engineering, taking responsibility for the optimisation of our pilot plant, and working with the R&D and Operations teams to achieve full‑scale production.

If you’ve ever been frustrated by how slow manufacturing development can be, or if you’ve ever wanted to take responsibility for the whole manufacturing lifecycle rather than just part of it, this is the job for you.

We’re a fast‑moving startup, so you need to be resourceful and pragmatic, adapting quickly in a rapidly‑evolving area. Our team is driven by innovation. We believe the energy transition can be accelerated by the right people harnessing their ingenuity and passion.

This role will excite you if you are constantly seeking new manufacturing knowledge and embrace the pioneering spirit of doing things that at a scale that have never been done before.

You need to have a keen interest in the application of innovative technologies, across a broad range of manufacturing unit operations.

The role involves working closely with Promethean’s operations and R&D teams on the company’s current manufacturing processes. This involves the operation and continuous improvement of a metal‑organic framework (MOF) production facility, as well as engineering responsibility for the site’s existing pilot‑scale facilities, and the development and implementation of future technologies and systems.

This role will lead the continuous improvement and development of Promethean’s operations, quality, and process safety methodologies and systems.

Requirements
  • Already based in the UK and fully eligible to work in the UK without restriction.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical, mechanical or manufacturing engineering from a top UK university.
  • Minimum 2 years industrial experience in a medium to high volume chemical manufacturer.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of standard chemical manufacturing tools, techniques, and systems.
  • Ability to discuss technical issues with a professional manner in a commercial setting (both internally and externally).
Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Ensure the safe operation of company‑wide facilities through the systematic utilisation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments (RAs).
  • Assess new and existing manufacturing processes and workflows including participation in HAZOPs, hazardous area assessments, and the production and updating of P&IDs.
  • Lead the safe design, installation and operation of new equipment, including the identification and implementation of required ancillary services.
  • Use continuous improvement methodologies to optimise productivity and quality.
  • Where required, work with external experts to perform advanced troubleshooting to improve performance and document operating procedures and discipline.
  • Assist in the implementation of a robust, fit‑for‑purpose quality management system that will satisfy the increasing complexity of our customer base.
  • Co‑ordinate the maintenance and inspections of various manufacturing equipment.
  • ‘Hands‑on’ mechanical work, including work with high‑pressure and/or temperature tubing and fittings (training to be provided).
  • Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
  • Assist in documenting root causes of asset utilisation losses in the facility.
Benefits
  • Annual performance‑based bonus
  • Flexible approach to working
  • Company pension plan
  • Private medical insurance
  • Potential for stock options
  • Group life insurance
