About The Role

Role: Catering Assistant

Location: Birmingham (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)

Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday

Interview Process: 2-stage process

Role purpose

To support the delivery of high-quality catering services across SCC sites by preparing and serving food, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring a welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors. The role contributes to the smooth operation of the catering function and upholds SCC’s standards of customer service and food safety.

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and appearance in line with SCC’s Food Hygiene Policy.
  • Prepare and serve food and beverages in accordance with menus and hygiene standards.
  • Ensure cleanliness and presentation of the kitchen, servery, and function areas.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Follow procedures for food storage, stock rotation, and delivery checks.
  • Adhere to cash handling and financial control procedures.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including COSHH.
  • Participate in training and team meetings as required.
  • Support emergency procedures and security protocols.
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Catering Manager, including working at other SCC Refresh sites.
Skills and experience
Knowledge
  • Basic or Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (Essential)
  • Awareness of Health & Safety and Allergen/Dietary guidelines (Essential)
Skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team (Essential)
Experience
  • Experience in a catering or hospitality environment (Desirable)
