Qualifications

  • Experience teaching cycle training to individuals of various age groups.
  • Capability to work with individuals having Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).
  • Valid enhanced DBS certificate essential for working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and deliver Bikeability training to improve road safety in schools.
  • Ensure safeguarding of children and report any issues to protect them.
  • Travel to collect bikes and operate Safer Cycling vehicles as required.
  • Conduct health and safety assessments for participants.
  • Deliver training sessions with a co-instructor.

Bikeability Cycling Instructor – Contracted

Via East Midlands are currently seeking a Bikeability Cycling Instructors to join our Road Safety Team on a contracted basis four days a week.

What you’ll do:
  • Promote and deliver Bikeability training and cycle-related activities to Nottinghamshire schools to improve road safety during term-time, weekends and holiday periods.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and report any issues to protect them from harm.
  • Willing to travel to depots to collect bikes and operate Safer Cycling vehicles to various sites as needed.
  • Ensure health and safety of course participants to protect them from harm, report incidents and near misses in accordance with Via procedure to school and Road Safety office.
  • Undertake dynamic risk assessments to ensure safety of riders and add additional information to the dynamic risk assessment as required during the sessions in the case of near misses/incidents.
  • Deliver training sessions with a co-instructor with assessment of riders’ behaviour and ability to ensure that the lessons are progressive to meet course objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of any new changes to the Cycle Training Delivery Guide.
  • Completion of course outcomes and record progress of individuals, including post course evaluations.
What we’re seeking:
  • Qualified 1st 4 Sport level instructor / Working towards 1st 4 Sport level instructor
  • Good knowledge of the Highway Code and Bikeability national standards
  • Good organisational and IT skills including completion of end of course records.
  • Coaching or teaching experience to deliver Safer Cycle training to individuals and groups of all ages including those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).
  • Confident cyclist on roads in quiet and busy traffic conditions, owning a cycle to bring to each lesson.
  • Full UK valid driving licence.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate is essential in order to work with children and vulnerable adults.
