A local community educational program in Cambridge is seeking a Bicycle Educator to plan and deliver workshops for adult cyclists. This in-person role involves providing instruction to various skill levels, organizing events, and promoting cycling through community engagement. Candidates should have a high school diploma, a love for cycling, and the ability to work well with a diverse range of individuals. This role requires physical activity and a valid driver's license.
The Department of Transportation (formerly known as the Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department) oversees public parking and traffic operations, including pavement markings, crosswalks and bicycle lanes, operation of traffic signals, traffic study reviews, and permitting street obstructions and street closings. The department also oversees the Resident Permit Program. Additionally, the Department of Transportation works with the Transportation Planning Division (formerly at Community Development) in planning, reviewing, and developing proposals to improve the City’s infrastructure and encourages walking, bicycling, and using transit.
The Bicycle Educator is responsible for planning and delivering weekly bicycling workshops for adults. The educator will create a welcoming and engaging environment to support community residents at various bicycling skill levels in becoming confident cyclists. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The City of Cambridge's workforce, like the community it serves, is diverse. Applicants must have the ability to work and interact effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.
Requires travel to and through the City to workshop and community outreach locations, driving, walking, biking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching. Candidate must be able to stand and bike for two to four hours at a time.
Work involved is mostly outdoors including congested city roadways in all weather conditions. This position is an in-person position.
