Job description

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing field personnel and coordinating with other supervisors to ensure all goals are being met. The Battalion Chief must have excellent communication skills, ability to organize and manage team members, and implement policies and procedures. The Battalion will report to the District Chief for that region.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Daily supervision of all crew members. Including but not limited to:
  • Assist with scheduling and staffing for the same day and next day.
  • Assist with assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of EMT-B, Intermediate and Paramedics.
  • Assure crews are responding quickly and efficiently.
  • Monitor system status.
  • Ensure all employee hours are entered into E-scheduler and ESO for payroll.
  • Cooperate with other members of management to continuously improve service.
  • Responsible for training, education and coaching of EMT-B, Intermediate and Paramedics
  • Ability to respond, participate and assist on various calls.
  • Assists in all aspects of equipment and vehicle maintenance (including oil changes - schedule with District Chief and Dispatch) including verification that all units are clean, stocked and in working order.
  • Verifies that stations and equipment are clean and well kept.
  • Responsible for monitoring station supplies.
  • Ensures all necessary patient care and billing documentation is completed within specific time-frames and complies with all current policies and procedures.
  • Consult with the District Chief on charts that need to go to crews for review.
  • Work on PCSs.
  • Work on signature charts.
  • Complete daily and monthly reports as required.
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Assist in handling issues as they arise.
  • Able to properly staff a truck.
  • Field phone calls from staff regarding issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
  • Function under situations of extreme fatigue due to little or no rest, extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, carry, balance and push up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
  • Demonstrate flexibility and physical coordination by bending from the waist and touching toes, squat with legs parallel to the ground, and kneeling with both knees firmly on the ground.
  • Repetitive lifting, squatting, stooping and kneeling.
  • Climb 20 sets of stairs without rest within 60 seconds.Demonstrate fine manual dexterity by performing job related clinical skills (starting IV's, intubating, etc.).
  • Have correctable vision adequate to read street signs, see in low light and read small print.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Paramedic certification with minimum of 2 years EMS experience.
  • Supervisor experience preferred.
