This is a key strategic role within the business, forming part of the Senior Leadership Team with the intention that the role will develop as part of short to medium-term goal to strengthen the company structure. The successful candidate must have the capability and ambition to grow into a leadership role at the highest level of the business.

The Associate Director will hold overall responsibility for all aspects of the organisation’s activities, including establishing and maintaining the organisation’s vision, mission and values; defining its structure, strategy and risk profile; and managing, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of policies, strategies, and operational plans. The role is accountable to shareholders and other stakeholders.

Applicants should have at least ten years’ post-Chartership experience of leading and managing a building services team, office, or similar business. Candidates must hold an Engineering Level 7 qualification (MEng or equivalent) and be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent).

Responsibilities
  • Liaise, collaborate and coordinate with other project team members
  • Attend meetings and represent the organisation externally
  • Maintain and develop client relationships
  • Discuss and resolve with the client any issues they may have with the performance of Webb Yates
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with company procedures
  • Review and agree project strategy (programme, fees, technical delivery, resourcing) with project lead
  • Review financial and technical performance of projects
  • Ensure the project team are working within the agreed scope
  • Maintain and update billing plans and invoicing schedules
  • Provide technical support to projects in terms of reviews or facilitating Director or specialist input
  • Review and negotiate contracts on behalf of Webb Yates
  • Stand in for project leads when appropriate (sickness absence, annual leave, training etc)
  • Support Directors in managing and resolving any claims that may arise, and advise on changes in company policy and procedure to avoid any potential future incidents
  • Deliver projects within the allocated budgets, programme and client expectations
  • Monitor and report on project profitability
  • Agree additional fees for variations and additional scope
  • Chase debtors and ensure any bad debts are resolved
  • Approve purchase orders
  • Oversee the production of project deliverables across multiple projects
  • Undertake the checking and reviewing of engineering designs and deliverables
  • Guide the team to produce viable technical solutions within the scope of a design brief
  • Provide technical expertise to junior members of staff on complex technical challenges
  • Advise the client and team on construction techniques and solutions
  • Advise the team and client on relevant environmental and sustainability issues and legislation
  • Advise on relevant project statutory legislation
  • Advise on relevant construction and contract law where required
  • Carry out site visits and surveys
  • Lead health and safety requirements and legislation for projects
  • Comply with CDM regulations in line with project duties

  • Develop and maintain external peer-level relationships
