Role description

We have an excellent opportunity for an Associate Commercial Director, with experience in service delivery excellence and team management, to lead and grow the cost and commercial delivery of Residential and Commercial Development projects across South West England and South Wales; driving and enhancing our commercial offering, service, performance and client experience. The role requires experience of delivering and leading multi‑million‑pound projects or programmes and managing our cost management teams in the location. Working within our Places business area, the role requires an individual that shares our passion for improving the quality of life, prides themselves on the part they play in transforming the world around them and understands the importance of teamwork.

Role accountabilities
  • Possess the skills and experience to actively support the internal team and manage resources on technically complex projects/programmes of work typically ranging between £1m and £100m.
  • Will be responsible for leading and growing a team, utilising resources to deliver projects within cost, time and quality standards, and will have significant technical knowledge and experience in their field.
  • Lead, coach and develop the skills and capabilities of team members in order to share knowledge, increase team skill level and improve the standard of service delivery.
  • Create project costings and budgets from clear objectives, managing finances across a project in order to ensure the profit and budgetary targets are met and best value outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead and manage individual cost management assignments from inception to completion, managing teams and resources to ensure delivery standards meet client expectations.
  • Demonstrate understanding of clients key objectives with the appropriate sector.
  • Monitor and review the performance and behaviour of all team members, including educating and influencing others, and take action to ensure compliance with the organisational policies and codes of conduct across the entire project.
  • Assure compliance with contracts in terms of project delivery parameters and scope of service.
  • Analyse and compile a range of complex data and documents, using knowledge to review and assess analysis and provide recommendations to contribute to project decision‑making.
  • Use own knowledge and experience of industry best practice to support the development of current cost and commercial management systems and processes.
  • Work to improve services and drive innovation to increase team contribution to project delivery.
  • Manage relationships with customers in order to identify opportunities to improve the cost management offering and deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Act as a key technical resource within the field of cost/commercial management, providing technical advice and solutions to internal colleagues in order to support successful project delivery across a range of projects.
  • Build valued relationships with senior clients and stakeholders, in order to ensure client satisfaction, develop the cost management service and create new business opportunities.
Qualifications & experience
  • Chartered professional with relevant cost and commercial management experience including delivery of medium/large projects ranging from £1m to £100m+ across an entire project life cycle.
  • Experience of managing people, and leadership skills including the ability to motivate others.
  • Experience in building and managing client relationships at senior‑management level, including the ability to act as a trusted advisor.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to liaise/share knowledge with peers and senior colleagues and build and maintain relationships.
  • Commercial acumen and organisational understanding.
  • Knowledge of the South West market particularly Exeter and Bristol.
  • Knowledge of the South Wales/Cardiff market would be an added advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Relevant professional qualification or chartered status.
  • CSCS card holder.
