Job description

We are looking for a dynamic and highly capable Assistant Librarian to support the Senior Librarian with the day-to-day running of the Libraries, and their resources at both the Prep and Senior School sites whilst contributing to the wider life of this busy holistic school community. This post is offered from the Spring Term 2026.

Our school has a strong and vibrant reading culture, where the Libraries and resources are embedded into both the curriculum and wellbeing of staff and students. In addition to having excellent administrative, digital, and inter-personal skills, you should be a voracious reader who enjoys a hands-on approach to promoting a love of reading in young people.

The successful candidate will relish the opportunity to be a crucial part of the excellent provision already in place and further developing the Libraries into thriving centres of learning. Working across both the Senior and Prep Schools facilitates a degree of autonomy and thus it is imperative that you are able to work with initiative, as well as cohesively with others.

Hours and Salary:

The hours for this role will be for 32.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, from 10.30am to 5.30pm. This includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and is in conjunction with the Senior Librarian, to ensure staffing for both Libraries throughout the day, so some flexibility will be required.

The role is term time (35 weeks including INSET), plus 2 additional weeks worked flexibly during the school holidays.

You will receive a pro‑ra salary between £18,402 - £19,168 per annum (based on £26,460 - £27,562 FTE), depending on skills, experience and qualifications. This includes paid holiday based on 25 days per year plus 8 bank holidays pro‑ra. Staff benefits include free lunches during term time, free on-site parking and use of the school’s sports facilities. The school also offers a discount on school fees for staff at the school.

The School:

Collegiate School occupies a stunning thirty‑acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site. Collegiate Prep School, specialising in the care of our younger students, enjoys its own dedicated campus a short walk from the Senior School. We are easily accessible from the motorway network and provide an outstanding education for students aged from 3 to 18.

We are proud of our high academic standards and our innovative approach to the development of teaching and learning across the school and we value the range of opportunities we provide for our pupils outside the classroom. We are an inclusive school with a strong pastoral system which puts student welfare and sense of belonging at the forefront. Our recent ISI report was outstanding; raw examination results are consistently good, value‑add scores are high and we have waiting lists in most year groups.
