With over 35 years of proven experience delivering projects valued between £2m and £50m, this is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable and expanding civil engineering contractor. Role Overview

The Assistant Estimator will support senior estimators in preparing accurate cost estimates, analysing tender documentation, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors. The role requires strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a pre-construction team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist senior estimators in reviewing and analysing tender documentation
  • Support take-off and measurement of quantities from drawings and specifications
  • Help prepare cost estimates and bills of quantities under guidance
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and clarify scope
  • Assist in evaluating and comparing supplier/subcontractor quotationsMaintain accurate records of tender documents, correspondence, and cost data
  • Contribute to risk identification and value engineering opportunities
  • Help prepare tender submission documents ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Attend internal tender review meetings and provide analytical support
  • Participate in post-tender reviews to capture lessons learned
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in estimating or quantity surveying (groundworks, RC frame, or civil engineering)
  • Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and measurement principles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Basic familiarity with estimating software
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
