A growing finance firm in Norwich is looking for an Assistant Accountant to support their finance team. Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be AAT qualified or currently studying.
  • Strong Excel skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full month-end process including journal preparation.
  • Assist with production of management accounts.
  • Process invoices and manage the accounts payable inbox.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and prepare cash-flow updates.
  • Maintain accurate sales and trading ledger records.
  • Assist with VAT returns and other financial compliance tasks.

Skills

AAT qualified or currently studying

Overview

NXTGEN is working with a growing business in Thorpe Hamlet looking for an Assistant Accountant (or Assistant Management Accountant) to join their expanding finance team. The role offers a blend of transactional accounting and month‑end responsibilities, providing a well‑rounded foundation to advance your career. You'll work closely with a highly approachable Finance Director and receive mentoring, guidance and one‑to‑one development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the full month‑end process, including preparation of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance‑sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with the production of management accounts and key month‑end, cash‑flow, and AP/AR reports
  • Process purchase, supplier and customer invoices, support payment runs and manage the AP inbox
  • Perform bank reconciliations, prepare cash‑flow updates and support AR reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate sales and trading ledger records, post receipts and chase outstanding debt
  • Update the fixed‑asset register and support stock accounting, including stock reconciliations and variance reviews
  • Assist with VAT returns and other financial compliance tasks
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director on ad‑hoc projects and gain wider business insight
  • Provide general support across the finance team as the business scales
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be AAT qualified or currently studying, or alternatively part‑qualified ACCA/CIMA, with a solid grounding in transactional finance and a genuine desire to progress. Strong Excel skills, a good understanding of debits and credits and confidence working with data are essential. A proactive, positive approach and eagerness to learn from an experienced Finance Director are key.

Benefits and Conditions
  • Salary £26.5k dependent on experience
  • Permanent, full‑time, 9–5pm Mon‑Fri (with flexibility)
  • Paid bonuses twice per annum at 10–20% of salary based on targets
