The Architectural Association is a leading independent school of architecture in London. The Communications Junior Editor supports newsletters, press, internal content and publications, working with editorial, design and digital teams.

Job Description

The Communications Junior Editor will assist with the day-to-day operations of the AA Communications Studio, providing support to deliver the School's written communication activities including school newsletters, press releases, internal communications, public programme promotional materials and school projects.

The appointed candidate will report to the Head of Communications and the Communications Studio Senior Editor and is tasked with supporting the development of important school documents such as the Prospectus, Annual Review and Report, Projects Review book, AA Weekly e-newsletter, etc. The role is key in the co-ordination, editing and delivery of day-to-day content produced by the school internally, as well as on the AA website and social media, in order to disseminate information both within and beyond the AA School Community.

The role will work closely with the editorial and graphic design team within the Communications Studio, the school's Digital Content Editor, the AA Public Programme team, Digital Platforms, Admissions, Membership, Bookshop, Photo Library and Archives, Visiting School, Audio Visual and the different academic units and programmes to share their work with a wider audience.

Job Requirements

You are a confident and skilled writer with strong experience in drafting, editing and proofreading to a high standard. You bring experience in academic writing and copy editing, with English as a first language. You show a genuine interest in architecture, education and the arts and enjoy working in a creative academic environment. You communicate clearly and work well with colleagues across different departments, building productive working relationships. You are highly organised, detail focused and able to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities and deadlines. You show initiative, self motivation and flexibility, including adapting working hours when required to meet deadlines. A relevant degree or equivalent experience in writing, publishing or a related field is preferred. You are confident using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Apple software such as Keynote and Pages.

Job Responsibilities

The Communications Junior Editor supports the daily work of the Communications Studio and plays a key role in delivering clear, accurate and timely content across the School. You edit, proofread and write material for newsletters, internal communications, public programmes, publications and digital platforms. You plan, write and produce the AA Weekly e newsletter and support promotional content for lectures, exhibitions and events. You coordinate content schedules, manage approvals, chase contributions and enforce deadlines. You work closely with designers to brief, gather and deliver images and graphics. You support major School projects including the Prospectus, Annual Report, Projects Review Book and related exhibitions and graduation content. You assist with website updates, news items, Visiting School pages, social media scheduling, podcasts and digital display screens. You help maintain editorial standards and support the ongoing use of the AA Style Guide.
