By working collaboratively with planners, engineers, construction teams and local authorities, we protect cultural assets while enabling the smooth delivery of essential infrastructure.**The Role**We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Archaeology and Heritage Assessor to lead archaeology and heritage inputs across Anglian Water’s capital programme.Reporting to the Enabling Manager, you’ll develop and implement the archaeology and heritage strategy for Anglian Water, ensuring clear, consistent processes that minimise risk, support timely approvals and uphold statutory and environmental responsibilities.You’ll advise on a diverse portfolio of projects—from pipelines and treatment works to nature-based solutions and network improvements—ensuring “right first time” delivery and supporting the business in meeting planning, environmental and heritage requirements.**Key Responsibilities****Strategic Leadership & Programme Delivery**• Provide strategic direction for archaeology and heritage across Anglian Water’s capital programme • Drive risk-based approaches that reduce uncertainty, streamline delivery and strengthen planning outcomes • Produce clear, high-quality technical deliverables to support planning submissions and project development • Influence early design decisions to remove unnecessary risk, time and cost • Collaborate across engineering, planning and delivery teams to enable efficient and environmentally responsible delivery**Technical Expertise**• Develop and maintain the archaeological fieldwork risk strategy • Create standardised approaches and templates for heritage deliverables, including digital formats • Provide technical guidance on archaeology and heritage requirements across project stages • Ensure compliance with health, safety, security and environmental legislation and standards**Who We’re Looking For**You’ll be a skilled archaeology or heritage professional who is confident operating in complex, fast-moving project environments. You’ll combine strong technical knowledge with excellent communication and influencing skills, enabling you to balance heritage considerations with programme needs.**Essential qualifications and experience:**• Degree (or equivalent) in archaeology, heritage or a related discipline • Significant experience delivering archaeology or heritage inputs on large capital or infrastructure programmes • Experience completing surveys and preparing reports for EIA Screening Opinions and planning documentation • Ability to build strong relationships with LPAs, statutory consultees and internal teams • Strong understanding of planning, environmental and heritage legislation• Play a key role in protecting the region’s archaeological and cultural heritage • Shape and deliver the heritage strategy for one of the UK’s largest infrastructure investment programmes • Work across a diverse range of impactful projects • Collaborate with specialists and stakeholders across Anglian Water • Join a supportive, forward-thinking team that values innovation**Working Arrangements**This role is based at our Peterborough office with hybrid working. You’ll typically spend 2–3 days a week on site or in the office to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
