Adult ASD Assessor - Independent Clinician Network

We are seeking dedicated clinicians experienced in undertaking adult ASD assessments and diagnosis. All Psicon associate ASD Assessors must hold GMC registration or HCPC registration and can be from either of the following clinical backgrounds – Adult Psychiatrist or Clinical Psychologist.

About The Role

As an Adult ASD Assessor specializing in Autism assessments for individuals 18+ years old, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive developmental histories using preferred methods/tools to evaluate patients undergoing autism assessments.
  • Observing patients during sessions and ensuring questions are asked in a thorough but compassionate manner.
  • Reviewing reports, developmental history, and relevant collateral information from home and observing in the same session.
  • Formulating a diagnosis, concluding the assessment, and providing feedback to the family in a kind, age‑appropriate, and compassionate manner, including recommendations and signposting to local/national resources.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in cases where further information is required and offering a separate follow‑up session to conclude the diagnosis if needed.
  • Producing high‑quality, detailed diagnostic reports within 48 hours post‑assessment, adhering to relevant criteria and report templates.
  • Requesting onward referrals as clinically necessary, in line with local NHS Trust/ICB protocols.
Working Conditions
  • Up to four appointments per day, paid on a competitive per assessment tariff (self‑employed, outside IR35).
  • Remote work and face‑to‑face clients; hybrid options available depending on location.
  • Flexible working days available Monday to Sunday, accommodating your schedule.

  • GMC‑registered doctor with a valid license to practice or HCPC‑registered Clinical Psychologist.
  • CCT in Adult Psychiatry preferred but not essential.
  • Expertise and confidence in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessments for adults.
  • Up‑to‑date with revalidation and appraisal processes.
