Port Eliot House & Gardens is located in St Germans, Cornwall, United Kingdom. With its extensive history and relaxed elegance, it is famous as the site of numerous popular festivals and cultural events throughout the year, which welcome the public to a secret corner of England, the ancestral seat of the 11th Earl of St Germans and home of the Eliot family. This incredible Grade‑I listed priory and house was remodelled by Sir John Soane in the 18th century, for renowned landscape gardener Sir Humphrey Repton to then create the gardens and park. The estate is run by Port Eliot House & Gardens Ltd; a dynamic and expanding company run by the Eliot Family.

Administrator

Period: 18-month contract (initial period)

Hours: 4 days per week (to include some evenings and weekends)

Salary: £31,200 - £35,360 (pro rata 4 days only)

Contract: PAYE

Reports to: Office Manager

Responsible for: NA

The Port Eliot Estate is a celebrated family run historic estate in Cornwall. The new role is joining the office responsible for the management of all aspects of the estate’s business from organising tours and events in the house and parkland; to maintaining systems for resources across residential, commercial and agricultural properties. The estate has ambitious plans for future development and although the post is initially for an 18 month contract there is opportunity for career development.

Role purpose

A dynamic opportunity for an ambitious heritage and tourism professional to join a busy and supportive working environment at the beautiful Port Eliot Estate in Cornwall. The individual will undertake a variety of tasks supporting the successful delivery of core administrative, financial, communications and logistical operations at a busy heritage estate office and rural pub offering accommodation and entertainment.

Key tasks and responsibilities
  • Timely management of administration in a family business including internal and external estate communications.
  • Support staff with financial management of business transactions such as invoicing and payments of contractors, suppliers and other expenses using online banking and software platforms including Xero.
  • Manage the maintenance and supply of office equipment including facilities for hybrid meetings.
  • Management and monitoring of bookings for events, weddings, accommodation and room hires across the business.
  • Ensuring effective and positive communication between the Port Eliot team members, and wider groups involved in its ecosystem; locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Support and manage data across the estate property; issuing of tenancy agreements, building documentation, checking payments of rents and arrears: uploading maintenance reports, key certificates, and monitoring the ongoing tenancy agreements across the commercial and residential portfolio.
  • Support and input into business development projects such as pop ups, events, festivals etc.
  • Eliot Arms: liaison with staff on the arrangements for special events, ordering of supplies, cleaning and laundry services.
  • Gardens: liaison with gardens staff on schedules and reporting on maintenance and planting.
  • Health, safety and security: support with the daily routes of ensuring the safe dining of a heritage estate.
Experience

You will bring experience of working in a busy commercial environment ideally in the heritage or tourism sector. You will have robust understanding of business activities and in particular the use of digital tools to manage the integration of sales, marketing and resource management. Above all you will need to be proactive, collaborative and possess excellent communications and organisational skills.
