Background
We’re partnering with an external accessibility vendor to conduct a thorough audit of the European Car Companion app (available on both iOS and Android) and its associated design system for Toyota and Lexus. This engagement aims to ensure compliance with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and our wider internal accessibility standards.
Role Overview
To ensure the vendor collaboration is efficient and actionable, we are establishing a dedicated role to coordinate between internal teams and the external vendor. This role will manage communication, task assignment, governance, and rollout of accessibility improvements.
Phase 1: Vendor engagement and initial audit
- Act as the primary point of contact between the vendor and internal TME teams.
- Coordinate audit scope, timelines, and deliverables for the app.
- Facilitate access to TME app builds, documentation, and relevant resources.
- Support vendor in identifying critical accessibility issues and risks.
Phase 2: EAA statement and risk prioritisation
- Collaborate with vendor to draft the accessibility statement (per EAA requirements).
- Ensure the statement is reviewed and approved by internal TME stakeholders.
- Support vendor and internal TME teams in prioritising issues by severity and effort.
Phase 3: Remediation and retesting
- Work with TME engineering and design teams to plan and assign fixes.
- Track remediation progress and support TME teams with vendor clarifications.
- Coordinate vendor retesting and confirm issue closure.
- Document lessons learned and maintain a clear audit trail.
Phase 4: Training and enablement
- Partner with vendor to organise targeted accessibility training sessions per discipline (e.g., design, development, QA).
- Track attendance, feedback, and integration of learnings into team workflows.
- Work with the lead design system designer to coordinate vendor’s audit of the design system assets.
- Ensure findings are documented and actioned in collaboration with the design system team.
- Support the creation of accessibility guidelines and governance for ongoing design updates.
Phase 6: Governance, testing, and roadmap
- Establish accessibility testing workflows and governance for future releases.
- Define success metrics and reporting structures.
- Support long‑term accessibility roadmap and vendor partnership planning.
Role responsibilities
- Serve as the main liaison between vendor and internal teams.
- Manage schedules, communication, and documentation.
- Ensure internal alignment and follow‑up on action items.
- Support governance and process integration post‑audit.
What we’re excited about this project
- The opportunity to work on a critical design system supporting Toyota and Lexus’s digital presence across Europe and the UK.
- A collaborative, innovative environment where your expertise will contribute to the efficiency and consistency of Toyota’s mobile (native) platforms.
Diversity & Inclusion
There’s been a lot of research showing how marginalised groups of people may not apply for jobs unless they meet all of the requirements. We also know that many UXers come from wide and wonderful backgrounds with different experiences. We value people who bring unique perspectives and add new knowledge to our team! You might not feel like you “tick all the boxes” but we sincerely hope you’ll apply anyway because you could be exactly what we’re looking for!
