Job title: Academic Coach

Start date: January 2026

Location: Barrow-in-Furness/Home (Hybrid working; likely to be combination of school premises/home)

Working hours: 5 days per week. Initially an 18-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extending.

Purpose of role: Due to the delivery of a successful pilot project we’re looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, caring and motivated individual to support young people in raising their aspirations and attainment, helping them to achieve the best possible results from their education.

You will be:

  • Coaching with academic study skills
  • Mentoring for academic and career progression
  • Nurturing relationships with students, families, and local schools
  • Reporting to client and head office

We are looking for a motivational Academic Coach to join our small but skilled team to deliver an exciting project on behalf of a client in Barrow-in-Furness and the surrounding area. You will work with a targeted group of students across three schools to help them explore and adopt the necessary thinking skills which they can use to raise their aspirations, attainment and improve their academic results. You will need to maintain the administrative processes within the project and track the progress of all those that you work with. Our ideal candidate has a proven track record in helping young people, is organised and a great communicator. If you have exceptional rapport-building skills, an interest in personal and academic development and a passion for helping young people become the best they can be, we would like to meet you.

Qualifications required

Maths and English GCSE.

Full driving licence.

You will need to clear DBS checks.

A level or equivalent.

Degree or equivalent.

Main responsibilities
  • Deliver one-to-one coaching sessions with students to raise their aspirations and ambitions.
  • Deliver small group mentoring sessions with students to develop their study skills.
  • Complete individual mentoring and tutoring reports for each student.
  • To take a dynamic approach for each session according to the changing needs of the individual students you are supporting.
  • Diarise, organise and communicate timings to each student for individual and group sessions.
  • Liaise with the schools main and relevant contacts throughout the project to:
    • Organise the delivery of the mentoring programme.
    • Organise the delivery of the coaching programme.
    • Be the point of contact for the school to suggest other students who could benefit from some bespoke support.
  • Prepare and plan sessions for each student taking part in the programme.
  • Regular engagement with students' parents within the programme; updating them on forthcoming events.
  • Carry out regular meetings with MADE’s client to deliver updates on the programme.
  • Carry out and document evaluation and feedback from students, teachers and parents.
  • Create reports on project outcomes.
  • Attending celebration events and support activities.
  • Regular check-ins with students who are involved with or who have completed the programme.
  • Build knowledge of MADE’s resources that will support the programme. Be the primary contact to liaise with schools and answer questions and solve problems.
