Overview

2026 Development Engineer Higher Apprentice, Customer Network Development, Warrington. Join to apply for the 2026 Development Engineer Higher Apprentice, Customer Network Development, Warrington role at National Grid.

Responsibilities
  • Support the design of energy network connections, including electrical layouts and infrastructure planning, to meet customer needs.
  • Analyse data and assess project feasibility, helping inform smart decisions about network capacity and connection options.
  • Collaborate with customers, project teams, and regulators to gather requirements and ensure projects stay aligned and on track.
  • Gain hands-on experience through site visits, inspections, and solving technical challenges during the development process.
  • Play a key role in connecting new customers to the energy network, while learning essential engineering and project delivery skills.
Location

This role is based in the Warrington office and offers flexible, hybrid working. You will be required to travel to our site locations for business across our region in the North West of England. As part of your programme you’ll be required to attend our National Grid Training Centre based at Eakring, Newark.

About You

You will need to have

  • You will have a minimum of five GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English language.
  • Have or be predicted to achieve two A-Levels at grade C or above one of which must be in either Maths or Physics OR BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 in either Electrical & Electronic Engineering or Engineering discipline at Grade Merit or Distinction.
  • You must already have a full valid UK driving license in place at the point you make your application.

You do not need prior work experience; the determination and will to succeed is far more important as we will teach you everything you need to know. The role will provide you with a variety of skills including transferrable skills to support your career development within National Grid.
