Job description

Our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service is SEQOHS accredited, demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and evidence-based occupational health services. We provide expert support to promote the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees, both within the Trust and to external organisations through contractual arrangements.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Moving and Handling Lead to act as the Trust's principal source of expertise in moving and handling. The postholder will play a key role within the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service, providing strategic leadership and specialist advice to support patient and staff safety and minimise the risk of harm or injury.

This role will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, SEQOHS-accredited service by ensuring robust governance, policy development, training, and continuous improvement in moving and handling practices.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead the Trust's approach to reducing moving and handling risks and preventing musculoskeletal injuries, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and promoting a strong, safety-conscious culture at the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic and professional leadership in moving and handling, including policy development, implementation, and review.
  • Identifying organisational needs and delivering evidence-based training programmes, including risk assessment, safe handling techniques, ergonomics, DSE, emergency evacuation equipment, and back care.
  • Undertaking workplace and risk assessments and advising managers on safe systems of work and appropriate equipment, including bariatric equipment.
  • Delivering specialist rehabilitation and return-to-work advice for employees following musculoskeletal injury, in collaboration with Occupational Health and allied services.
  • Supervising and developing the Moving and Handling Assistant and Key Trainers, including training delivery, audit, and ongoing competence assurance.
  • Providing expert advice on risk management, legislative compliance, accident investigation, and the prevention of moving and handling-related incidents.
  • Maintaining accurate records, analysing injury and incident data, and identifying trends to inform preventative action.
  • Contributing to service quality, audit, research, and continuous improvement.
  • Representing the service at Trust-wide committees and working groups.

  • In possession of/working towards/willing to work towards manual handling qualifications e.g. IOSH, RoSPA
