The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced tax lawyer to join our successful Corporate practice in Manchester. In this role, you will play a key role in advising a diverse portfolio of small and medium sized business clients across a broad range of tax matters. You will work closely with our Corporate, Employment, and Commercial Leasing teams to deliver integrated, strategic tax advice on transactions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Advising on corporate tax matters, including initial business structuring, M&A transactions, restructurings, joint ventures, EIS/SEIS, EMI option schemes, and investment structures
• Advising on trust structures and preparing documentation
• Providing expert guidance on IR35 and employment tax issues, including off-payroll working rules, contractor assessments, and workforce structuring
• Advising on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) matters relating to corporate and leasing transactions
• Advising on international expansion (including transfer pricing and permanent establishment considerations)
• Advising on VAT liability and compliance
• Managing HMRC objections and appeals
• Managing client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives
• Supporting and mentoring junior team members
• Contributing to business development through webinars and content

Our Ideal Candidate

• Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with 5+ years PQE in corporate tax with proven transactional experience. Additional experience in general corporate work and/or assisting SMEs will be highly desirable
• Demonstrable expertise in IR35 / employment tax
• Experience in SDLT (particularly leasing)
• Excellent technical ability, commercial awareness, and communication skills
• Confident working with clients autonomously while contributing positively to team culture
