Responsibilities
- Conduct supplier audits as defined in the Supplier Audit Plan. Audits may include Initial audits for Supplier Nomination, ongoing surveillance audits, and Process & Product Audits.
- Act as the main quality signatory for the sign-off of newly nominated suppliers, based on audit results and supplier quality capability assessment.
- Support new projects (NPI) and manage APQP activities with selected suppliers in line with internal APQP deliverables for assigned projects.
- Participate in DFMEA & PFMEA activities and ensure identified critical and significant characteristics are understood and cascaded to suppliers as part of APQP and overall quality activities.
- Agree PPAP requirements with suppliers and review/approve/reject PPAP submissions.
- Ensure supplier measurement and inspection strategy aligns with Engineering requirements and internal quality and Goods Inwards inspection.
- Confirm ISIRs are completed and submitted for review.
- Engage with and manage nominated suppliers to ensure they consistently deliver products that meet defined requirements and specifications.
- Effectively manage supplier non-conformance to prevent recurrence using standard problem-solving tools (e.g., 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why).
- Facilitate containment activities at suppliers and ensure robust root cause analysis, preventive/corrective actions, and final verification to close concerns.
- Escalate unresolved supplier quality issues to the line manager.
- Conduct lessons learned sessions with suppliers at project phase starts and support in-house lessons learned exercises where applicable.
- Promote continuous improvement techniques such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke, and Measurement System Analysis.
- Collect and analyse data for KPIs and report to line manager and the business as required.
- Assist in resolving supplier quality issues in collaboration with Engineering and Supply Chain functions.
- Act as point of contact for lineside supplier quality queries and support internal triage processes for concerns raised.
- Collaborate with internal Quality and Goods Inwards Inspectors to share clear and accurate information with suppliers and internal teams for timely resolution of supplier concerns.
- May lead nominated SQE projects and may stand in for the line manager in their absence.
- Travel to the UK and overseas as required by the role (Full UK driving license required).
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in Powertrain, Chassis, Vehicle Structure, Electrical/Electronics, and Interior commodity groups; detailed knowledge of Powertrain is of particular interest.
- Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and FMEA. Certification of AIAG Core Tools Training is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Tools (5S, Value Stream Mapping, TPM, OEE, Gemba, Kaizen, PDCA, Six Sigma) is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016; knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2015 is beneficial.
- Knowledge/experience in Metrology, Inspection Methods, and Measuring Equipment; ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Understanding of various automotive manufacturing processes; ability to work in a dynamic environment and prioritize workload.
- Good communication, interpersonal skills, and teamwork; strong negotiation abilities.
- Ability to compile and present data effectively with strong presentation skills.
- Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directed, and committed to delivering objectives; comfortable challenging existing processes.
- Clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the business.
