About The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Support Worker to join the Substance Misuse team at HMP Preston, a Category B male remand prison in Preston city centre! We offer a supportive, fast paced, challenging environment where no two days are the same.

We have a fantastic opportunity to join the team, and work across the service, and support the team on the specialist recovery wing. No 2 days are the same in this challenging, yet rewarding and supportive environment.

Hours

The role is full time, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts are 8am - 4pm / 9am - 5pm.

Salary

This full‑time position offers an annual salary of up to £25,557 – £29,723 per annum, depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing

As our new Support Worker, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Work within the Non-Clinical Substance Misuse Service, assisting the wider team and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care and healthcare.
  • Assist in group delivery; these are psychosocial based and focus on relapse prevention, drug use, alcohol misuse etc.
  • Offer harm reduction advice.
  • Carry out initial assessments and triage, both on reception and on the wings – we have a high turnover of patients here, with an average of 15‑20 entering and leaving
