Job description
Speciality Barista, 25 hours per week Mon‑Fri 7‑12 Outdoor Coffee Van Fixed Location (Borehamwood)

Selling speciality coffee out of a Piaggio Apé van, we are Hertfordshire’s coolest coffee joint.

Recruiment by Charlie Rozentals at Roaming Roast Website.

Roaming Roast is a mobile specialty coffee truck located in Borehamwood, on the corner of Furzehill Road and Shenley Road and Sky Studios Elstree. We serve high quality espresso‑based drinks, teas and homemade treats, with a commitment to delivering coffee as the roaster intends: no syrups, no squirty cream. Our dedication to quality ensures that every customer enjoys a premium coffee experience.

Role Description

This is a part‑time (20 hours per week) on‑site role for a Specialty Coffee Barista located in Borehamwood. The Barista will be responsible for preparing and serving speciality‑grade espresso‑based drinks and teas, ensuring that each beverage meets our exacting standards. Day‑to‑day tasks include making hot drinks, serving food, maintaining cleanliness behind the counter, engaging with customers, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key qualities we’re looking for:

  • A social, positive, and personable individual who can easily make small talk.
  • Someone with a solid work ethic, reliably turns up and is always on time.
  • Someone who can act independently and handle a queue of customers.

As a small business, there will be times when the barista will need to work independently, so problem solving and executive decisions are essential. We are seeking someone who has lots of experience as a speciality barista in high‑traffic environments.

As we are a mobile truck, working outside in all weathers is part of what we do. Yes, we have a cover from the rain, but you’ll need a warm coat, hat and socks!

Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year full‑time (or part‑time equivalent) experience as a speciality coffee barista is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Barista certification or relevant training is advantageous.

Additional Information

The Coffee Tasting Framework is accurate, intuitive and grounded in how people actually perceive flavour. It will equip you to identify a coffee’s defining characteristics, appreciate its appeal and identify the coffee drinkers that will enjoy it.

If you’re having trouble distinguishing bitterness from sourness, take a sip of coffee, swirl it around your mouth, swallow, then look down and open your mouth slightly.

If saliva starts to pool or drip, that’s caused by acidity – which we perceive as sourness.

Do you have 1 or more years of full time (or equivalent) speciality barista experience? We are a mobile truck and working outside in all weathers is part of what we do. Are you ok with this?
