Specialist Speech & Language Therapist- ENT/Voice and Surgery

Join to apply for the Specialist Speech & Language Therapist- ENT/Voice and Surgery role at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Overview

Are you a skilled, resourceful and dynamic Speech and Language Therapist with experience of managing patients with complex dysphagia and communication impairments including ENT/voice disorders and critical care? This role is based at York Hospital and delivers care to patients across the trust, with a specific focus on patients with ENT/voice disorders and acute inpatients on the surgical wards. The Surgical Adult Speech and Language Therapy team provides care across the patient journey (inpatients, outpatients and specialist services such as Head & Neck cancer). There is a weekly SLT-Led Videofluoroscopy service and an active move to establish a FEES service.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, provide differential diagnosis and manage adult communication and swallowing disorders related to ENT/Voice/Critical Care.
  • Liaise closely with multidisciplinary teams, families, carers, GPs and AHPs to provide holistic care.
  • Support and collaborate with Advanced Clinical Specialist Speech & Language Therapists, the Team Manager and the Professional Lead for Speech & Language Therapy.
  • Contribute to service development by leading on projects and supporting audits and research with Advanced Clinical Specialists; contribute to providing engaging student placements.
  • Lead or participate in weekly SLT-Led Videofluoroscopy clinics and a monthly joint voice clinic; participate in regular team and clinical meetings.
  • Transport yourself and equipment independently across the region (trust pool cars available) and be flexible with time and skills to meet service needs.
  • Engage with supervision and development opportunities and support ongoing education and training within the team.

  • Experience as a Speech and Language Therapist with skills in managing complex dysphagia and communication impairments, including ENT/Voice disorders and critical care.
