# Solihull Council - Assistant Building Control InspectorWe have an exciting development opportunity for an **Assistant Building Control Inspector** to join our award-winning Building Control team. This role will help support the delivery of Solihull Council’s responsibilities under the Building Safety Act and delivering high-quality Building Control services across the borough.You’ll be an integral part of a high-performing and growing team that works closely with Planning, Solihull Community Housing, project delivery teams and our suite of external customers to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable development.In Solihull, we help make big things happen – like the High-Speed Rail network, M42 Junction 5a, our housing growth programme aligned with a new emerging Local Plan and bringing forward exciting commercial and residential developments including Birmingham Airport, the N.E.C., Jaguar Land Rover, Mell Square and Arden Cross developments to name but a few.We also pride ourselves on being a Council that is small enough to care, but big enough to make a difference. To help achieve this we work closely with our public sector partners, businesses, the voluntary sector and communities to improve the lives of the people we serve.ResponsibilitiesAs an Assistant Building Control Inspector, you will* Hone your skills on your pathway to a career in Building Control* Support the administration and implementation of building regulations and allied legislation.* Assist Officers and, as your experience grows, progress to independently carry out inspections, compliance visits, investigations, surveys, and interventions across a variety of building control settings.* Help support the delivery of relevant enforcement activities, and maintain accurate case records, responding within corporate timescales and keeping stakeholders informed.* Contribute to proactive project work, complaint investigations, and educational/training initiatives as your knowledge develops.Essential qualifications/skillsA construction-based degree or equivalent knowledge through experience and training.Registration as a Class 1 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).Previous experience in the construction industry, with an understanding of building techniques, plans, and processes.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with technical staff and customers.Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy in challenging situations.Analytical ability to interpret data and information accurately.Proficiency in ICT, particularly MS Office and bespoke systems.A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, to enable you to move around sites in the Borough where much of the team’s work is delivered.Desirable qualifications/skillsWorking towards or already achieved higher classes of registration with the BSRExperience of working in a Building Regulation environment. Including plan assessment and site inspections under structured supervisionAn understanding of GIS and database systems.Salary Band E / F (+5 Market Forces Increments) £38,220 - £51,356 p.a. (£56,725 p.a.) Progression through pay structure at bands E/F is subject to professional qualifications, service requirements and performance. Band E - SP 27 – 33 (38) (Registered Building Inspector) £38,220 – £44,075 (£49,282 p.a.) Band F - SP 34 –40 (45) (Registered Senior Building Inspector) £45,091 –£51,356 (£56,725 p.a.)
