Job description
The Production and Lab Manager (PLM) holds full accountability for the safe and efficient execution of all production works orders through the plant, from point of issue in planning to point of handing over to Warehousing and Shipping teams. The PLM manages all employees in the Floxfill, Acublend,cylinder prep, transfill,Non Flam and laboratory departments. Key to the success of the role is understanding and driving the workflow of the departments and designing processes and communication methods that enable us to meet customer demand. Safety is and always will be the primary focus of the PLM; from ensuring training and skills for the team is up to date, conducting task observations and safety engagements and crucially leading by example. As PLM you are the figurehead for safe, reliable and highly structured ways of working.**Key Duties include:*** Figurehead for process safety and safety culture within the team, proactively seeking improvements in safety and challenging any practices that may either be unsafe currently or could lead to unsafe circumstances in the future* Assist the SG Plant Operations Manager to maintain the Tunstall Safety program & ensure that all activities comply with all ISO, EH&S, and regulatory requirements.* Assist SG Plant Operations Manager in meeting cost budgets for the Tunstall Facility* Management of all employees within the SG Production and Lab teams; responsibility for talent management, performance management, training, and all pastoral topics including recruitment, onboarding, discipline and offboarding.* Execution of production works orders in the timescales, volumes and quality parameters dictated by the planning team* Embedding robust processes which the team can run themselves to facilitate communication between each production and lab step. Having daily and weekly team briefings to drive performance and communication* Defining and managing the ongoing implementation of uniform gas mixing methodologies to ensure that each gas mixer is following a repeatable and measurable process.* Identification of opportunities to gain efficiencies in lead time, quality, operating cost and process time; seeing this through from investigation to execution* Introduction & reporting on key Production KPI’s* Working knowledge of gas mixing, transfill and lab processes, including oxy-fuel to ensure that all processes are well understood from a practical standpoint. Ability to “walk the walk” and support the team practically if business needs or personal preference dictates.* Work with the Quality Team to investigate fails in premixes and bespoke mixes to understand the root cause and drive down the number year on year* Alongside the Supply Chain Manager, ensure that there is adequate structure outside of core working hours whilst people are on site by having a nominated single point of contact and adequate cover for setting of alarms and site opening/closing* Review production equipment and make recommendations for Equipment upgrades.* Other job duties as assigned## \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_## * Demonstrable experience of working in a leadership role in a production environment, managing teams of 10 or more people.* Experience of working in high risk environments and working in accordance with H&S principles and mechanisms.* Ability to manage and balance both physical and human resources to accomplish a plan in a dynamic and changeable production environment* Basic knowledge of pressure systems and aptitude for learning about the equipment we use and how it must be maintained.* Minimum of 5 years working knowledge of speciality gas products, packages and manufacturing methods - Desirable* Ability to take messages from other core areas of the business; technical, business, quality etc and present back to the team in a manner which is well understood and enables accurate execution of the requirement* Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be fully conversant with core IT applications such as emails, spreadsheets, presentations, ERP (SAP).
