Senior Environmental Engineer

Location: Bristol, GB, BS16 1EJ; Devonport, Plymouth, GB, PL1 4SG

Full time / Permanent role with hybrid working arrangements; regular travel between Devonport Royal Dockyard and Babcock Technology Centre. Compensation up to £58,105 dependent upon experience + Benefits.

The role

As a Senior Environmental Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of projects that protect our environment while supporting the operational capability of the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet. This is a unique opportunity to influence design changes, assess environmental impacts and deliver solutions that make a real difference to national security and sustainability.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll act as a dedicated focal point for environmental expertise on behalf of Babcock, Submarine Support Engineering by:

  • Providing environmental expertise across complex engineering projects.
  • Producing and assuring high‑level environmental documentation for safety cases.
  • Advising on sustainability and compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to mitigate environmental risks.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with regular travel between Devonport Royal Dockyard and Babcock Technology Centre.

Please note there is a requirement for the successful candidate to enter industrial areas.

Essential experience of the Senior Environmental Engineer
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and sustainability principles.
  • Proven experience in environmental assurance and impact assessments.
  • Track record of delivering projects to time, cost and quality.
  • Skilled in producing technical reports and environmental evidence.
Qualifications for the Senior Environmental Engineer
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or significant experience in environmental management.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
