Senior Biomedical Scientist – Health and Safety and Training
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) is recruiting a Senior Biomedical Scientist to support our laboratory services. Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (Band 7). Full time, 37.5 hours per week, location: Colney, England. Closing date: 27/11/2025 23:59.
Job Overview
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist you will lead the health and safety and training functions within the laboratory, ensuring safe practices, staff competence, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement health and safety procedures in the laboratory.
- Provide training and supervision to junior staff on biosafety and laboratory processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, audit and monitor safety events.
- Maintain equipment and monitor instrument performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and risk assessments.
- Participate in incident investigations and record keeping.
- Collaborate with other BMS and clinical teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- MSc Biomedical Sciences or higher specialist diploma of the IBMS or equivalent.
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Relevant experience of managing health and safety in a laboratory setting.
- Experience delivering training or supervising staff.
- Knowledge of UK HSE regulations and laboratory safety standards.
