The Role

We are looking for a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) who shares our passion for inclusion and wants to help every child thrive. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, dedicated team and lead our SEND provision with creativity and compassion. This role does not have a class teaching responsibility, allowing the successful candidate to focus solely on supporting the diverse needs of children across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the needs of pupils with SEND and ensure they receive effective support that reflects their needs

  • Ensure the school's SEND provision is in line with the local offer and national standards as well as the SEND Code of Practice

  • Implement the graduated approach to providing SEND support

  • Work with the headteacher and governors on the strategic development of SEND provision

  • Work within the school’s leadership team to develop and oversee the school's SEND policy and strategy

  • Liaise with external agencies and requests for information as needed, ensuring SEND record keeping is in line with school policy and the SEND Code of Practice

  • Provide guidance and training to staff so that inclusive practice is at the heart of everything we do

  • Support staff with the identification of children with SEND

  • Work closely with teachers, families, and external professionals to create positive outcomes

  • Develop adaptive strategies that make learning accessible and enjoyable for all

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualified teacher with (or working towards) the National Award for SEND Coordination.

  • Someone who understands the SEND Code of Practice and can put it into action, including a sound knowledge of high-quality teaching as described in the SEND CoP.

  • A colleague who has experience of working with wider professionals to provide the highest levels of support for children with SEND and their families

  • Someone who is ambitious and has high expectations for all children

  • A warm, approachable team player who communicates well and builds strong relationships with parents, children, and colleagues

  • A problem-solver with a positive outlook, who is highly organised and agile at developing priorities

  • Someone who can manage challenging situations, maintaining a calm but clear approach, which is underpinned by a secure knowledge of systems and processes

  • Someone who is committed to making a difference

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • We are a welcoming school community where everyone matters

  • We have a supportive leadership team and there are opportunities for professional growth

  • You would be supported in this role by an able and established team of staff who support children with SEND, including a part-time SEND Provision Lead and Pastoral Worker and a full-time Health Lead

  • This is an opportunity to shape the future for children who need you the most.

  • We are committed to supporting all our staff with their well-being
