Canal & River Trust

Overview

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Infrastructure and Programme Delivery (IPD) team in Wales, South West and Midlands, supporting our vision and delivering our Waterways and Wellbeing strategy. You will manage low‑to‑medium risk projects across national waterways, reservoirs and infrastructure, ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery.

Location & Coverage

Offered on a home‑working basis with occasional visits to Gloucester, Birmingham or Hatton hubs. Travel across the Wales, South West and Midlands waterways network will be expected for site visits and meetings.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage projects in accordance with the Trust’s Health & Safety policy and defined standards to ensure compliance.
  • Capture project requirements, assess stakeholder impact and prepare a business case to justify investment.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a schedule of project activities and key milestones.
  • Provide financial and cost management, budgeting and cost control; estimate and justify project costs and control actual costs.
  • Manage risks, issues and changes on the project.
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders and the project team/organisation.
  • Manage all contract aspects (e.g., NEC ECC, NEC PSC) for commercial control and compliance.
  • Provide environmental management and ensure controls are implemented.
  • Close the project in a controlled manner highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrate Trust values, behaviour and promote diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications
  • HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Project Management or related discipline.
  • Valid UK driving licence – Car Cash allowance & national travel expected.
Experience
  • Successful experience managing multiple low‑to‑medium complexity projects.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and systems.
  • Some NEC ECC contract administration experience.
  • Finance control of project delivery.
General Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, stakeholder management.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain project schedules, budgets and forecasts.
  • Problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
  • Positive, can‑do attitude and confidence building.
  • Good IT skills; use of MS Project an advantage.

Salary: £35,000 – £40,750 + Car Cash Allowance of £390 per month.
