BT Security is focused on protecting networks and critical infrastructure. We deal with thousands of cyber-attacks every day, delivering vital work at scale and providing opportunities for professional and personal development. We are dedicated to the safety and security of our nation and global communities.

You'll be joining a specialist security team that is a trusted partner to governments worldwide, protecting critical national infrastructure and committed to safety and security. Our mission-focused work is innovative, inspiring and technically challenging, offering chances to work on rare projects with powerful tools and brilliant people. Your contribution will be valued.

Why this job matters

As a member of our network engineering team you'll lead the design and implementation of world-class, customer-focused network solutions, ranging from small bespoke solutions to large enterprise-scale deployments.

The team is customer-focused, so you'll work directly with end customers, understand their requirements, and lead the design of solutions that make a significant difference in protecting society.

This job role can be based in London or Ipswich. Onsite (5 days office based). Monday-Friday (37.5 hours per week). You must be able to obtain DV clearance in order to start this role. You will need to have lived in the UK for 10 years+ to obtain this.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead the creation of high and low level network designs for complex IP networks.
  • Be hands on implementing these solutions, using vendor products such as Cisco.
  • Work directly with our customers to understand their requirements and use this to inform your solutions.
  • Work with support teams to enable management and the ongoing support of deployed solutions.
  • Provide some third line support to deployed solutions.
  • Provide support to other members of project teams, setting the technical direction for their own deliveries.
Essential Skills
  • Network Architecture
  • Requirements Gathering
  • Network Security
  • Network Design
  • Network Infrastructure
You'll definitely have
  • Have experience in designing, building and providing third-line support for complex IP networks, that are secure, scalable, resilient, and give high performance.
  • Know how to set the technical direction for complex and potentially large network solutions, creating both high and low level designs.
  • Have knowledge of network design for security, potentially including firewall, IDS and IPS experience.
  • Be able to communicate complex technical concepts and solutions to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Have a desire to continually update, enhance and validate own skills.
You might even
  • Have experience with and knowledge of enterprise and operator-scale routing design using protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, LDP or RSVP.
  • Have experience of automation and Software Defined Networking approaches, for example Cisco DNAC and Ansible. However, neither is mandatory as this is an area we as a team are looking to upskill in and would support your development in.
  • Have experience of internal and external stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Have a certification in a network engineer discipline such as CISCO CCNP Routing and Switching. Though while desirable, practical experience using specific vendors' equipment, such as Cisco is more important.
