Overview

We are fast-growing UK-based business in the renewable energy sector, known as a knowledge partner specialising in grid connection equipment manufacturing and power studies.

With a forecasted £10M turnover and 40+ employees, we are scaling our operations significantly over the next five years and are investing in building a robust finance function that supports strategic decision-making, scalable growth and ensures compliance.

The Role

We’re looking for a commercially focused and detail-driven Management Accountant to join our finance team as a key player, the number two in our finance function, for the next phase of our growth.

This is hands-on role where you will be responsible for preparing timely and accurate monthly management accounts, ensuring transactional accuracy and compliance, supporting budgeting and forecasting cycles, and helping to strengthen financial controls and performance visibility. This role has a great exposure to business partnering and you will play a key part in improving systems, processes, and reporting as the company scales.

You will be supported by the Financial Controller but expected to take full ownership of your areas. This is an excellent opportunity to grow into a future Finance Manager role, and the role is ideal opportunity for a newly qualified or finalist professional with a manufacturing background looking to step up into a broader role with real impact in a purpose driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
Month-End & Reporting

Preparation of monthly management accounts – including:

  • Revenue recognition ensuring correct accounting treatment for project-based deliverables
  • COGS validation with analysis of any abnormal stock movements
  • Accruals, prepayments, payroll and any other necessary journals
  • Balance sheet reconciliation with investigation of any unreconciled items
  • Monthly reporting packs for each of revenue streams and at a company level
Cash & Treasury
  • Weekly cashflow forecast updates and daily cash monitoring
  • Preparation of proposed supplier payment runs
  • Monitor and analyse DSO, DPO, Inventory T.O and CCC
  • Assist with bank postings
Inventory & Operational Finance
  • Monthly reconciliation of inventory accounts including GRNI / WIP, investigate variances and implement necessary controls to reduce unreconciled items
  • Partner with operations to support inventory reporting and stock movements visibility.
Support & Planning
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting cycles with variance analysis and insight
  • Work with internal teams to improve financial transparency on job costing and project tracking
  • Produce weekly sales reports and contribute to internal reporting packs
Compliance & Controls
  • Lead on quarterly VAT returns and payroll accuracy
  • Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors at year end
  • Assist with R&D claim preparation and compliance submissions
  • Drive process improvements and help develop scalable finance systems and controls
  • Support the development of junior team members and help build finance understanding across departments
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to meet internal and external reporting deadlines
About You
  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified or finalist
  • Experience in owning a day-to-day finance function including managing AP, AR, cash management
  • Experience in preparation of monthly management accounts in accordance with statutory requirements
  • A good knowledge of UK GAAP and FRS 102
  • Experience of working in a multi-currency environment
  • A good understanding of VAT and PAYE
  • Demonstrative experience of value-add initiatives
  • Experience in a manufacturing or project-based business
  • Understanding of standard costing, BOM, stock movements
  • Hands-on, proactive, and detail-orientated with a commercial mindset
  • Good communication skills and confidence engaging with non-finance colleagues
  • “A can do” attitude
  • Willingness to take ownership and suggest control/reporting improvements to increase visibility for better decision making
  • Interest or experience with Power BI or data visualisation tools
  • Experience with cloud-based ERP systems such Odoo, Oracle NetSuite, Xero
  • Exposure to R&D tax relief claims
  • Comfortable with building or improving finance processes (month-end, cashflow, controls)
