Overview

Wood in Reading are seeking a Lead HSE Advisor on an agency basis for a large project. This role will be based full time in Wood’s Reading offices.

Provide strategic leadership and direction for Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) performance on a FEED project based at Wood’s Reading Execution Hub. Collaborate closely with project management, client representatives, and project team to drive continual improvement in HSSE outcomes. Develop and maintain a fit-for-purpose Project HSSE Management System that aligns with Wood’s Business Management System (BMS), client expectations, and legal requirements. Deliver assurance activities to verify compliance and system effectiveness. Leverage performance data to support proactive, evidence-based decision-making and contribute to the successful delivery of corporate HSSE initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Translate Wood’s strategic goals into actionable HSSE practices across the project.
  • Lead and support all aspects of HSSE management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage regularly with internal and external stakeholders to promote HSSE culture and gather feedback.
  • Implement and monitor the Wood BMS, ensuring consistent application and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the deployment of HSSE systems and tools to ensure effective risk management.
  • Develop and execute risk-based assurance plans; escalate significant findings to project leadership.
  • Analyze HSSE performance data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with the Project HSSE Management System.
  • Promote and embed HSSE best practices across all project functions.
  • Develop and implement safe work plans tailored to project needs.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of HSSE-related presentations and communications.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in relevant discipline (desirable)
  • Lead Auditor Qualified (desirable)
  • Membership of HSSE organization(s), e.g., IOSH (desirable)
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
  • Relevant experience within Oil & Gas / Energy Transition projects at the FEED stage
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry HSSE standards and legal requirements
  • Experience of working in and managing an HSSE Management System environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Confident self-starter who can work independently
  • Knowledge of internal and external auditing practices
