Job description

Do you have a background in electrical engineering? Are you a natural problem solver with excellent influencing and communication skills? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to join our team as a Lead Electrical Engineer.

What you'll do

Working as part of the Electrical Implementation team, you will be responsible for providing electrical design to Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Project Engineering teams for capital schemes in both waste and supply environments, as well as providing governance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, design standards and the 'Water Industry Mechanical Electrical Specification'.

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • providing construction electrical design deliverables as determined by the project team
  • supervising site surveys (e.g. harmonic surveys, electrical condition surveys, duct network surveys and earthing network surveys) and producing reports as required by the design team, involving third-party contractors as appropriate
  • providing governance on all aspects of the project's electrical installation documentation
  • liaising with all project stakeholders, M&E project managers, Ops representatives, DNO, Telecommunication Contractors, Internal Automation team, etc
  • attending technical meetings to provide electrical technical expertise for successful project delivery, e.g. design reviews, HAZOP, Control Philosophy reviews, etc
  • leading the Electrical and/or junior Electrical Engineers in the preparation of required installation documentation (Cable Schedules, Power Distribution Models, Cable Route Diagrams, etc)
  • assisting the Design team with constructability issues
  • providing technical support to the Construction team during the construction phase of the project
  • liaising with the external contractors and Internal Design teams as required
  • deputising for the Electrical Implementation Manager to represent the team as required
  • ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • assisting the wider project team with cost reduction by reviewing standard products
  • exploring energy-saving solutions and alternative construction methods
  • producing WIMES Data Sheets for MCC manufacturers
  • facilitating the use of OSB products within design.

You will also use your expertise to mentor the junior members of the team and instil a can-do culture within the team to support cost-effective delivery and personal development.

What you'll need

You will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills and effectively explain complex topics in simple terms, as well as have and develop strong negotiation and influencing skills.

In addition, you will have:

  • qualifications appropriate to industrial electrical requirements, including BS7671 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations
  • a wide knowledge and experience in water and wastewater treatment construction practices
  • a fundamental knowledge of ATEX and WIMES
  • strong IT skills.

If you have previous working knowledge of ACAD products and knowledge of the Power Cable Calculation Package, this would be an advantage, but it is not essential.
