Job summary

A leading global provider of healthcare solutions is looking for a part-time Laboratory Technician. You will conduct laboratory testing, ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, and support customer requirements in the medical device sector. Ideal candidates will have a science qualification in chemistry or microbiology and 1-3 years of lab experience. Skills in MS Office and independent work are essential. This role is based in North East England.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements preferable.
  • Experience in the medical device sector preferred.
  • Full UK driving license required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct simple and complex sample preparation techniques.
  • Analyse samples using a wide range of analytical instrumentation.
  • Maintain test equipment and instrumentation in good order.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive records of quality tests.
  • Support in developing bespoke methodologies.

About Us

At Steris AST we are the trusted experts in technology‑neutral sterilization services including radiation and gas modalities.

We offer electron beam, gamma, X‑ray, ethylene oxide and vaporized hydrogen peroxide technologies for the purpose of product sterilization. Whether that product be a single use medical device, consumables in a hospital environment, cosmetics and toiletries, or industrial products, we make sure everything that makes its way to an end user is safe for use or consumption.

This is Part‑time role - 25 hours per week contract

What is involved
Safety

To ensure all work in the laboratory is carried out in compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 including section 13 "Duties of employees", Health and Safety policies and all relevant statutory provisions in conjunction with the laboratory staff and under the direction of the laboratory management for the provision of laboratory testing services to Synergy Health customers.

Quality
  • Liaise with Quality Representative to ensure that all operations are conducted in accordance with the Quality Management System.
  • Maintains test equipment and instrumentation in good order. Liaise with laboratory management in meeting the test requirements.
  • Specific and general responsibilities in respect of the Quality System.
  • Accurately document and maintain comprehensive records of all quality tests conducted.
  • Upholds relevant quality standards as set out in the controlled laboratory and Quality procedures.
  • Performs other related quality duties as assigned.
Duties
  • Conduct simple and complex sample preparation techniques and analyse samples using a wide range of spectroscopic and other analytical instrumentation.
  • Receiving consumables and distributing them into the designated areas.
  • Support in developing bespoke methodologies to support Customer requirements.
  • Conduct internal qualifications. Supporting audit preparation.
  • Work and document analysis under appropriate accreditation.
Required Experience

1-3 years Lab experience

Science Qualification in Chemistry or Micro‑Biology

Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements pertaining to laboratory operations preferable.

Experience in the Medical device sector preferable

Full UK driving license

Skills

Effective use of MS Word, MS PowerPoint and statistical data analysis using tools such as MS Excel.

Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills, work team oriented.
