Job description

The Integrated Children with Additional Needs (ICAN) service is looking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated, and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with community nursing and band 6 experience, to join our existing nursing team. This is an exciting time to join ICAN as you will be involved in the development of the new pre-school neurodiversity (ND) pathway.

We are offering an exciting permanent role for a Band 6 ICAN Community Nurse (this would suit someone with Health visiting, School Nursing or Paediatric Nursing experience with additional training in public health) You will have a passion and interest in working with children with additional needs, including those who are neurodivergent.

You will have experience of caseload management including safeguarding and multi-disciplinary working. You should display excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills and the ability to motivate and support others through change.

You will work within our pre-school nursing intervention offers supporting care delivery for children on our Pre-School ND, Complex Development, and Growth and Nutrition pathways. This includes triage, supporting families attending for assessments, delivering interventions and parent workshops. The position will be primarily based at St George's Centre with cross city cover- you will be required to work Wednesdays.

This role requires the successful candidate to have a caring and compassionate approach.

Key responsibilities include working with children and their families – from triage through to supporting care delivery and nursing interventions.
You will manage your own caseload of children who require Nursing support, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team including Therapists and Paediatricians. Effective communication, awareness of when to elevate concerns and recognition of limitations is paramount to ensure safety of the children.

The main focus of this role is with the ND, complex development and Growth and Nutrition pathways. This involves a combination of Triage, Nursing assessment, intervention contacts, attendance at MDT meetings and delivering training to parent workshops. You will be involved in delivering new and innovative parent/carer workshops in the areas of ND, sleep and eating. The workshops involve in person and online training with a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children.

The work within all our pathways can involve home visits, clinic consultations and close involvement with the MDT team to support families.

You further develop your leadership skills by supporting students and junior staff by providing supervision and encouraging the development of staff through appraisals and reviews.

We have a structured induction, preceptorship programme and in house training programme to prepare you for working within ICAN.
